LARA
CLANCY plays Vicky Stevens |
"I
made my screen debut in James Shanks' 'Inciting Murder'
aged 17 and did my first feature film also directed by Shanks
(Devil's Harvest) whilst at University studying History
and English. Devil's Harvest (released in the UK as 'Don't
go into the attic') a horror set in Cornwall, starred Brian
Blessed and Julie T Wallace. Between shooting that and Summer
Rain I made 7 short fims and also dubbed one of the characters
for the UK theatrical release of Japanese monster movie
'Gamera - Guardian of the Universe'."

|
What
first attracted to the role? |
Vicky’s
sense of humour and the idea of spending a summer in Brighton. |
Are
you anything like your character? |
My
friends say I have a sarcastic nature like Vicky, but I think
she dresses better than me! |
What’s
you background? |
Normal
– no family history of acting. School nerd turned blonde
bombshell (just joking) |
How
did you get into acting? |
Through
a friend of a friend whilst at university. I didn’t
go to drama school. Pursued acting whilst studying for an
English and History degree. |
What
did you draw on from your life for the film? |
The
uncertainty you feel when you hit your twenties as to what
the hell to do with your life. |
|
Why
do you think you got the part? |
I
was approached by Jonathan Glendening who had seen my other
film DEVIL’S HARVEST and auditioned in London and Brighton.
I must have looked like a drop-out with extremely poor tase
in men – which is worrying, as I got the part. |
What
are your favourite scenes? (& Why?) |
The
clubbing scene – because what appears on screen is nothing
like when we actually filmed – with about 10 extras,
no music, etc… |
Do
you have any stories from the filming of Summer Rain? |
Colin’s
variety of hats that became necessary to disguise a very bad
wig after Paul Maddocks shaved his head halfway through filming
(spot the scene with his real hair!) |
How
does your life relate to the film and subject matter? |
I
am very experienced in taking ages to dump shit boyfriends
(just like my character). |
|
How
do you think Summer Rain fits into the whole Brit-flick genre? |
By
having a gorgeous cast, cool music and blatently avoiding
the whole ‘drugs’ issue that other film-makers
cling onto in the hope that it will make their film ‘cool’
and controversial. |
What
was the worst bit of the Summer Rain experience for you? |
Having
microphones clipped into uncomfortable places! |
What
was the best bit of the Summer Rain experience for you? |
My
first scene filmed on the beach – I was there in the
blazing sunshine, infront of a big crew, living my dream –
it rocked! |
Who
do you think will like the film? |
Young,
funny, twentysomethings – or anyone who’s been
in a relationship! |
How
and why do you think people will relate to the film? |
Because
somewhere in the film is a character that anyone can relate
to, the dumper, the dumpee, the mate etc… |
Do
you think the setting of Brighton was important? (&Why?) |
Yes,
because a) it looks bloody brilliant, and b) it’s like
a little community and, as in the film, it’s easy to
bump into the same people (or see the things you shouldn’t). |
